Passage off Cable St shows Mahogany Bar in Graces Alley, part of Wilton's Music Hall. The Mahogany Bar is still in operation today and dates from the first half of the 18th century when it served the Scandinavian sea captains and wealthy merchants who lived in neighbouring Wellclose Square. It was named in the 1820s when the landlord was one of the first to install a mahogany bar and fittings in his pub. Just off the historic Cable Street, famed for a battle in which Albert played a key role, this painting is a lovely depiction of life in the East End.
